Day to day

Day 1 - Cuenca

Start the rail tour at Madrid's Atocha train station and take the high-speed AVE train to Cuenca. Travel time: 50min. Cuenca is a stunning city, famous for its Casas Colgadas (hanging houses) which are listed on UNESCO's world heritage list.

Overnight stay in the wonderful Parador**** of Cuenca, a former monastery. The Parador is spectacularly situated on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Huécar Gorge, with stunning views across the river towards town. The old centre of Cuenca can be reached by a pedestrian bridge across the gorge. The Parador has a charming patio and an excellent restaurant. The beautifully decorated rooms are located in the old buildings of the former monastery.

It is possible to add train tickets to Spain to your booking. Additional fees applicable.

Day 2 - Cordoba

Take the direct AVE train to Cordoba. Travel time: 2h10min. Visit the beautiful old town with the impressive 'mosque-cathedral' Mezquita.

The Parador**** of Cordoba is situated in a quiet location on a hill not far from the AVE train station. It offers great views over the city.

Day 3 - Cadiz

Travel in 2h20min by Avant high-speed train (1st class only) to the seaside town of Cadiz, considered one of the oldest cities in the West.

The modern Parador**** of Cadiz has a lovely and quiet location right on the Atlantic Ocean. The old town with its baroque palaces is a short stroll away, La Caleta beach just a few steps. The bright Parador has been smartly designed with views of the bay from anywhere in the building. After a day of exploring the city, relax at the pool.

Day 4

The final day of your rail tour takes you to either Madrid (travel time 4h20min) or Seville (travel time 1h40min).

It is possible to add train tickets to another domestic or international destination to your booking. Additional fees applicable.

More often though, stunning old buildings are transformed into Paradores to accommodate tourists and keep the cultural heritage alive. Numerous castles, monasteries and haciendas have been turned into a Parador in recent years.
